ME-262 Diorama planning: Kubelwagen Type 82, more? Hobby ADD!

I picked up this little Tamiya kit a few months back for less then $4. I decided to put it together last night after finishing the bikes. It was quick and easy, has less then 50 parts including the figures. It's a cute little car.

It looks so cool I came up with the idea of pairing it with a plane for a little diorama, and then I remembered my long-abandoned ME-262..and how convenient it just happens to be 1/48 as well! Perfect!  If I can come up with a few bucks, I might try and get a couple more little kits to go with it (Mainly the Tamiya "German aircraft power supply") and put it on a grassy field/runway.

I also dug out my X-1 Dakkajet and put a hole in it to use a flight stand.  That will get painted real soon, for my September Frebootaz painting challenge.

So a couple of time-wasting hobby ADD projects as I continually avoid Space Wolves. Though I do need them done by November 9th for a tournament.

Imperial Fists commission complete!

So I finished off the commission today, after waiting a couple days for weather to cooperate with varnishing. I might be doing more Fists in the future.

I think they look fantastic, but I might have to up the price a bit if I do any more..they are easy but tedious.

After this I spent the rest of my hobby time dinking around. Post on that later.

Star Trek Attack Wing!!

A lot of people play and love the X-Wing miniatures battle game, but I was only mildly interested.  When I heard a few months ago that WizKids had licensed the game system and was doing a Star Trek version, I knew I wanted to wait for that.

Well it's finally out, and even though I don't have the cash, my cousin bought it and we threw down a couple games tonight.

He even bought the Reliant and the Original Enterprise..and we played a game of Star Trek II! It was fucking awesome!  The felt the store had even looks like the Multara Nebula lol. holy amazeballs!

I'm hoping for an Enterprise -C as a future release so I can play the battle of Narendra III and an Excelsior so I can play the battle of Khittomer!  Ya, I'm that fucking nerdy.

Oh, how about an M5 card and a bunch of Constitution class ships!  Or an early Warbird and play Balance of Terror!  holy amazeballs!

Anyway, video. Enjoy. It's not HD, camera was set wrong. Sorry.

Imperial Fist bike commission update #2

Making good progress.

Getting the Imperial Fist decal on the shoulder pads is a real pain in the ass, even with micro-sol.

What I thought would be the worst part..blocking out the bike.. turns out to be not that bad.  I need to do the decals on the two guys from the attack bike, and then 3 more to paint.  Should be done shortly.

Another quick update.

Imperial Fist bike commission work in progress

The test model I did a few weeks ago got me a commission painting 7 bikes.  They are going pretty well, I plan on doing a how-to video.

So that's what's going on now. I do want to get back to my Space Wolves..or the Dakkajet..sometime soon.

Quick update, quick post. Not much else to say :)

Yay! First game of Warmachine!

Headed out to Red Castle Games tonight for 40k, where I played a 1500pt game of my Tau/Wolves vs Orks...as someone's first game of 40k.

After I finished that, a bunch of Warmahordes guys came by and I was able to find someone to play against. Glad I finally started taking my models with me!

It was quite fun. Spent a lot of time trying to figure how to make thing work, and I had some hot dice that allowed eHaley to solo a heavy warjack! Ended up dying in the end but only things left on the table where Haley, the other warcaster and another solo.  Lots of turns, learned a lot. Maybe I should read the rule book :)

-Hunter. I really liked using him to flank around back and put some shots out. Even though he lost his cortex early, he was still annoying enough to force my opponent to spend some time killing it. I'd like to have 2 or 3 for larger games.
-Lancer. Used it's attacks to quickly take out cortex points. Really helps limit the damage other jacks can do.
-Charger. That gun is great, combined with Haley's spells it can put out the hurt.
-Domination.  WOW. That's all I have to say about that.  Combined with the re-roll you get from the squire it's great fun.

I really wish I could get more models. I don't have much heavy hitting in the stuff I have now but being able to sneak around for back shots and taking out a cortex or two does help make up for it.  Overall eHaley and the models I've picked really play into my passive-aggressive style of miniature wargames..the same thing I've been playing in 40k for years.

So yes, I'm playing WM just like I play 40k..

Just a few pics I took here and there. My opponent was great fun, and he said I did very well considering my only experience was youtube videos.

First Farsight Enclaves list

TSHFT Portland is early next month. I probably won't be able to play because it costs $75, but I will see if I can help people practice.

So today I made a quick list using Farsight Enclaves and Space Wolves.  I really like the Wolves as allies both for the punch of the Thunderwolf Cav and the Rune Priest..which is currently totally broken as far as psychic powers go.

So here is the list, which I would probably play if I was going. It's a bit low on the model count and I'm sure would have some bad matchups but it puts out a lot of fire power.  Not much to deal with Land Raiders though..

Primary Detachment Codex: Farsight Enclaves

HQ (50): Ethereal

Troop (180): 3x XV8 Crisis Team; 6x Burst cannon, 3x Early warning override, 3x Bonding Knife Ritual, 3x Marker Drone
Troop (180): 3x XV8 Crisis Team; 6x Burst cannon, 3x Early warning override, 3x Bonding Knife Ritual, 3x Marker Drone
Troop (174): 3x XV8 Crisis Team; 6x Missile Pod, 3x Early warning override, 3x Bonding Knife Ritual

Fast (82): 6x Pathfinder; Shas'ui, 6x Bonding Knife Ritual

Heavy (243): 3x XV88 Broadside; 3x Hi-yield Missile Pods, 2x Velocity Tracker, 1x Target lock, 3x Bonding Knife Ritual

Allied Detachment Codex: Space Wolves
HQ (120): Rune Priest; Runic armor, Jaws of the World Wolf, Living Lightning
HQ (265): Wolf Lord; Thunderwolf Mount, Power Fist, Storm Shield, Saga of the Bear, Wolf Tail Talisman

Troop (155): 10x Grey Hunter; 2x Meltagun

Fast (160): 2x Thunderwolf Calvary; 2x Storm Shield

Heavy (140): 6x Long Fangs; 5x Missile Launcher

1749 Pts

I got in a practice game, where it was Emperor's Will primary and The Scouring secondary, against Chaos Demons with Fateweaver, a couple Demon Princes and the Pink Star.  We tied on primary and I easily won secondary with 3 objectives, and all 3 bonus points.  In the TSHFT that would have probably been a 13-7 win for my side. It was a pretty good game, including: having the warpstorm table turn my rune priest into a harold, Broadsides opening on a flying prince at BS7 and eliminating 26 of 28 demonettes in a single turn (6 burst cannon suits are INSANE btw).

so that's it, comment if you wish. I like the list but I think it could use some tuning..

Dark Angels Rhino completed; Toys for Tots donation!

If you've been following me for any time at all, you should have heard about the donations I make each year for the 40k Radio Freebootaz Toys for Tots charity army.

We've been very successful, raising over $2500 for the organization over the years. Unlike previous years, this time we've created a specific list and built a 2000pt army, plus extras of course.

My donation is a Rhino for a Dark Angels army.  It came out ok, I did some pre-shading but it didn't survive the color coat.  Still pretty happy with it.

Pre-highlighting, actually..

Didn't do any paint damage, but did do plenty of pigments to make it look nice and used.

Well that's it for now. Not much else to say...

Building allied detachments.

Ever since 6th hit, I've thought one of the best ideas in there is allies. I *love* allies.  It just adds so much variety to what you see on the table.   This is, to me, a win-win for everyone involved. Gamers get access to more units.  Modelers get more opportunities for painting and conversions. And GW sells more stuff.

Back in January 2012 I started to build a Space Wolf army..razorback spam. Then 6th hit and that changed completely. I just sat on the models for a long time.  I finally finished building and started painting the models, I have a full 1000pts of them.  I plan on running them as allies for my Tau.

I am also thinking about other allies. Mainly, CSM for my Orks.  I have a pretty good idea of the models I want ...flying demon prince with back mace, noise marines and a helldrake.. but the hard part is what I want to do with the modeling.

Specifically, if I should just build a regular CSM force or do something more interesting. Basically I'm thinking of building some Orks as chaos marines. An Ork with CSM shoulder pads, backpack and bolter. All done in Slanneshy pink!  The demon prince? How about a Ghaz model with wings?  Noise marines? Goff rockers, obviously.  Helldrake? Ork riding a dragon.

I also have a couple boxes of eldar models (Farseer, bikes) that I might either trade or use for Tau allies..sigh.

When thinking about an allied force, especially when you have multiple main armies, is which army are you building it for?  The main problem that I'm trying to figure out is basing. All 3 of my main armies are based differently, so trying to use a single allied force for more then one is hard. I would like to use my Blood Angels as allies for my Space Wolves as well...plus using my BA as codex marines for the Tau (which I've done).

So much to choose from, so many options. So many ideas! It kinda makes me in a hobby lock as I can't decide what to do, how to do it and if I do it wrong I'm stuck with models I don't like.

But next up is a commission I need to hit pretty hard (still recovering from OFCC) while I think about it.

Hobby progress update..only a little hobby ADD this time..

Wife went out today, so was able to get in some airbrushing (she can't handle the fumes).

Starting with a Dark Angels Rhino for Toys for Tots.  Did some pre-highlighting because it was primed black.  The final color didn't go as well as I had hoped. Still don't like my Badger Patriot yet..

Painted the gunner, touched up some green and started in on the main part of the Rhino. Will be done soon.

While I had the airbrush out, I based coated the second set of 6 Blood Axe Firewarriors, and also wasted some time on a Slannesh Chaos Space Marine from Dark Vengeance. I'm still working out exactly what I want to do with CSM..

Not much else going on. Have OFCC this weekend, looking forward to that.

Time to stop the hobby ADD: More Grey Hunters complete. And more comments on hobby progress.

Last couple of days I've been working on the next 5 Grey Hunters.  I really, really like how these guys are coming out.  Doing them with paint chips and dirt is really going in a new direction for me, as my Blood Angels are pristine.

I am doing them in the swamp basing of my Tau, but only better..again, several years of hobby practice will do that. Not only do I have better skills, but simply better ideas. More exposure to models, bases, and generally seeing more stuff gives you more data to pull ideas from and/or copy. Nothing wrong with copying ideas you see online.  My snow angel night goblin was something I saw online somewhere, but that's no reason not to do it.

So one of the guys I put in a small stream of swampy water, based off the way I did water on my big swamp terrain piece which is green and orange under some gloss varnish. Money has never been there for real water effects, but I really want some soon.

Anyway next project is a Dark Angels Rhino for the Freebootaz radio Toys for Tots charity army.

And a group pic with all my complete Space Wolf models so far.
